Animated story of the Buddha, produced by Pentamedia Graphics, and sponsored by the Economic Development Board (EDB) of Singapore. The film was the first full-length 2D animation feature produced from India. It was released the year before the 2550th anniversary of Buddha's birth. It was also the Indian entry in the animated film category for the 2005 Oscar awards.
At a cost of US$6.3million, some 70 key animators and 300 others were hired to make the film over 18 months. Artists in India, the Philippines (where Kingdom Animasia, Pentamedia's subsidiary, is located) and Singapore produced the hand-drawn frames, which included about 450,000 drawings of Buddha. Over 1,000 hand-painted illustrations went into creating the backgrounds.
