Basic formula of Dependent Origination

imasmi.m sati ida.m hoti
imassa uppaadaa ida.m uppajjati
imasmi.m asati ida.m na hoti
imassa nirodhaa ida.m nirujjhati.

When this is present, that comes to be
from the arising of this, that arises
When this is absent, that does not come to be
on the cessation of this, that ceases

此有故彼有
此生故彼生
此無故彼無
此滅故彼滅

Assaji's stanza

"Ye dhammaa hetuppabhavaa tesa.m hetu.m tathaagato aaha, tesańca yo nirodho, eva.m vaadii mahaasama.no'ti."

"Of all those things that from a cause arise,
Tathagata the cause thereof has told;
And how they cease to be, that too he tells,
This is the doctrine of the Great Recluse."

諸法因緣生
諸法因緣滅
我佛大沙門
常作如是說
