'viraagaanupassii assasissaamii'ti sikkhati;
'viraagaanupassii passasissaamii'ti sikkhati;
'nirodhaanupassii assasissaamii'ti sikkhati;
'nirodhaanupassii passasissaamii'ti sikkhati;
'pa.tinissaggaanupassii assasissaamii'ti sikkhati;
'pa.tinissaggaanupassii passasissaamii'ti sikkhati.

"'Aniccaanupassii assasissaamii'ti sikkhati;
one contemplating impermanence / will breathe in / trains himself
"'I will breathe in as one contemplating impermanence', he trains himself;

  • anicca (n.) impermanence.
  • anupassii (adj., m. nom. of anupassin) observing, realising, contemplating.
  • aniccaanupassii : one contemplating impermanence.

'aniccaanupassii passasissaamii'ti sikkhati;
one contemplating impermanence / will breathe out / trains himself
'I will breathe out as one contemplating impermanence', he trains himself;


'viraagaanupassii assasissaamii'ti sikkhati;
one contemplating absence of desire / will breathe in / trains himself
'I will breathe in as one contemplating the absence of desire', he trains himself;

  • viraaga (m.) absence of desire.
  • viraagaanupassii : one contemplating the absence of desire.

'viraagaanupassii passasissaamii'ti sikkhati;
one contemplating absence of desire / will breathe out / trains himself
'I will breathe out as one contemplating the absence of desire', he trains himself;


'nirodhaanupassii assasissaamii'ti sikkhati;
one contemplating cessation / will breathe in / trains himself
'I will breathe in as one contemplating the cessation (of desire)', he trains himself;

  • nirodha (m.) cessation, annihilation.
  • nirodhaanupassii : one contemplating cessation.

'nirodhaanupassii passasissaamii'ti sikkhati;
one contemplating cessation / will breathe out / trains himself
'I will breathe out as one contemplating the cessation (of desire)', he trains himself;


'pa.tinissaggaanupassii assasissaamii'ti sikkhati;
one contemplating renunciation / will breathe in / trains himself

  • pa.tinissagga (m.) renunciation.
  • pa.tinissaggaanupassii : one contemplating renunciation.
